Happy 21st!

To baby that is. This weekend marks 21 weeks and while Chris had a drink to celebrate, I'll have to wait another 19 weeks or so. Little man may have also been celebrating; I thought I felt him move today but until it becomes more frequent I can't be sure.

I finally told my new boss and colleagues I was pregnant. Funny thing is, I've been pregnant the entire 5 months I've been there. What can I say, scrubs hide a belly well. Anyway, they were very happy and kind, but I know they were thinking 'great, she's outta here'. I made it clear I wasn't planning on leaving. Afterall, I make my own schedule and only have to work 1 day a week and take call 1 weekend a month...you really can't beat that. I plan to return to working a very relaxed schedule once the baby is born, at least that's the plan.

I've been very hesitant to shop for baby. Partly because I've been in denial. Of course it's not that I didn't want to be pregnant but that I wanted to be for so long it's hard to believe. But after hearing little mans heartbeat again and seeing him on ultrasound I decided to relax and go shopping! And shopping I did! This weekend we bought a chocolate brown glider, brown and white polka dot curtains, and a brown and blue rug. Chocolate brown and baby blue modern is the look I'm trying to achieve. I must say, babies open up entirely new shopping opportunities...

Half Way There & Gender Reveal

The tech and doctor (who were very funny by the way) immediately asked if we wanted to know the sex. Of course I said yes, and I think Chris said 'only if it's a boy'. The very second the tech put the probe on my belly Chris said 'I saw it', 'it' being a penis. Very typical Chris behavior. The conversation continued-
tech: here's his head
me: or her head
tech: no. here is his head and his spine.
Chris: I told you I saw it! {Grin}

Little man was squirming all over the place, and in fact, we could never get a good picture of his face. We were told everything looked great but the doctor told me he couldn't be sure the baby wouldn't look like his daddy;) The whole day was quite amazing.

How far along: 20 weeks! Half way there...

Total weight gain/loss: +10 (right on track, lets see if I can keep it that way)

Maternity clothes: The belly band rocks! I'm wearing my regular pants and maternity pants with one, in fact I have two, a black and a white one

Stretch marks: hell no

Sleep: I sleep well and have vivid dreams every night

Best moment this week: Seeing our little one on ultrasound

Movement: Still impatiently waiting

Food cravings: Nothing specific, though I eat a lot!

Gender: It's a BOY!

Labor signs: Uh, no

Belly button in or out: IN

What I miss: Ice cold beer, is this considered a craving?

What I am looking forward to: Feeling this baby boy move

Weekly wisdom: "Patience is a virtue"

Todays THE day!

Our ultrasound appointment is FINALLY here. It seems everyone thinks this baby is a girl except for one. Chris. One of my students suggested we have the doctor write down girl or boy and put it in an envelope and then Chris and I open it three days later on Valentines day. If we do this, Chris will have to take possession of the envelope because there's just no way I wouldn't peak, no way! I suppose we have a few hours to decide what to do and you'll just have to wait and see.

Other than girl or boy, we'll get to find out if this bundle of joy is healthy and on track size wise. I suppose all soon-to-be moms are nervous and I'm no different. I certainly have flashbacks to my doctor telling me, during an ultrasound, my pregnancy was over. Of course he was wrong! Stay tuned for a picture of our little one, and, of course, the gender announcement...

Our sweet Mazie (see her in one of the pictures below) turned 10 years old on January 30th. It's quite amazing how much she's changed in 1o years. She was the worlds worst puppy. No seriously, I could tell you some stories. She shredded everything from stacks of cash (no I wasn't rich, I waited tables at the time) to the walls. It wasn't until she was about 4 that she could be trusted, and that's still on a limited basis. While her personality still prevails, she now has some old lady attributes, the details of which I will spare you. However, I will say her arthritis is getting worse and I'm currently on the hunt for some doggie stairs so she can continue to get on her futon. Gotta love her.

And now for a few changes to our house. As we were doing a bit of home renovation this weekend, I realized I never posted our last home upgrade. Our floors!

Old kitchen floor...yuck

Old living room and hallway floors...yuck
New floors!
The new floors are carried throughout the entire downstairs
(living room, hallway, kitchen, the guest bedroom, and the girls room)

Last week we got new blinds throughout the house. This may seem minimal but they really brighten up the place.

Old blah blinds
New exciting blinds!

And this weekend my personal handyman removed this dingy sink and faucet
And replaced it with this masterpiece!
These renovations are meant for our enjoyment, not to sell the house. In other words, we've decided to stay put for a little while. "A little while" translates into a minimum of two years. The decision was made for a variety of reasons, one of which is our embryos are here. After that, who knows!
